About

T.J. Parsell is a writer and human rights activist dedicated to ending sexual violence against men, women and children in all forms of detention. He is President of Stop Prisoner Rape, served as a consultant to the National Prison Rape Elimination Commission and has recently finished his book, FISH: A Memoir of a Boy in a Man's Prison (Carrol & Graf) to be published Fall/2006.

Mr. Parsell has testified before numerous government bodies and was instrumental in passage of the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, the first ever federal legislation to address this issue. He has consulted with numerous corrections agengies,

the National Institute of Corrections, and The U.S. Bureau of Justice Programs. His work has been featured in the New York Times, The National Review, The Nation Magazine, The Village Voice, USA Today, Out Magazine and other national publications. He has appeared on National Public Radio, the BBC World Service, CBS News on Logo and other major network programs.
